Biography Of

Mercy Ehiorobo

Mummy's Biography

Mercy Izegbuwa Ehiorobo was born on November 11th, 1962, to her mother, Christiana who is still here with us today, and her father, the late Joseph Aigbovo, who has now been reunited with his beloved daughter in Heaven.  Mercy was the second child, the first girl, of this large, wonderful family of fourteen. Her brother, Jude, is the eldest, followed by Mercy, then her sisters, Amenze, Adesuwa, Edoghogho, Helen, Enaruna, and Osariemen, then her younger brothers, Ese, Ikponmwonsa and Osabuohien, and her half-brothers, Adekunle, Monday, and Efosa.

For over thirty-eight years, Mercy was married to Jacob Uwuigbe Ehiorobo.  She loved him beyond comprehension, and he reciprocated.  Before they married, when Dad was courting Ma, he was so dedicated, so persistent, and so single-minded in pursuing her, that her father, my grand-dad Aigbovo, got out his gun and tried to chase him away.  Still, Jacob persisted.  He was resilient, determined and focussed entirely on making Mercy, the love of his life, his wife. Nothing was going to stop Jacob from winning Mercy’s heart and in the end, they lived and loved together, raising their  wonderful, blessed family into adulthood, passing on their hard-gained wisdom, their immense love for each other and their children, down through the generations.

Mercy had five children and is the proud grandmother to nine grandchildren.  Her eldest son, my brother Osasumwen, has one son of his own, the charmingOsamagbe and a beautiful daughter, Osaretin.  Mercy’s second son, Osahenrunmwen has one son, the captivatingOsaevbie.  I am Mercy’s third child, Iziegbe and I am the father of two of Mercy’s granddaughters, my delightful girls, Eseosa and Eseohe.  My sister, Osarugue, is Mercy’s only daughter and she is the mother of twin boys, the adorableOritaeneye and Eneyotan.  Our youngest brother, Pressley, completes our family, along with his lovely daughter, Osafiangbemwen and his mesmerizing son, Nosazeemen.

Mercy was not just a mother to us – she shared her motherly love with countless others, holding each and every one of them close to her heart, loving, guiding, protecting and feeding them with her delicious food, feeding their spirits with loving kindness and understanding, and feeding their souls with thoughtful, God-given inspiration.

Mercy attended Emokpae primary school in Benin City where she was a bright and cheerful girl, and a devoted student.  After graduating from primary school, she attended a typing school, and became a typist at the High Court of Justice in Benin. She then attended the Teacher’s College in Ekiadolor, Edo State. After graduating from the Teacher’s College, she taught in the Primary School for a couple of years, but the lure of business was calling her.  Mercy was a brilliant problem-solver and outstanding critical thinker. She intuitively found ways to achieve her desired results.  She applied these skills, along with her resourcefulness and tenacity, to ensure success in business and in life.  She was a natural and very accomplished businesswoman, buying and selling foodstuffs locally. She built a thriving business, eventually expanding overseas by exporting Nigerian products to the USA.

Mercy was passionate and knowledgeable about food, so it was no surprise when she transitioned into the restaurant business.  Ehi Pride, her large eatery in Benin City, was her pride and joy.  She built it from the ground up and it grew rapidly, going from strength to strength, as did her reputation for delicious food and excellent service.
